MS SharePoint 2013

MS SharePoint Team Site is a web based platform for collaboration within a team. SharePoint connects different technologies to one solution:

  • shared contacts,
  • calendars and tasks
  • wikis and document library

plus offering numerous features built upon each other which cover typical workflows of a organisation (e.g. administration of appointments, notifications, maintenance of a knowledge base and distribution of tasks). 

“Team Sites” features

Generally you can use all features that are included in the SharePoint 2013 standard edition. Authorisation levels "create" and higher enable you to add further apps to your team site.

Requirements

Application: in order to apply for Sharepoint as "Strukturverwalter" your department needs to meet the following requirements:

  • an approved OrgName - more...
  • Exchange must have been activated for your department - more...
  • a written authorisation concept for the data protection officer of TU Berlin - more...

Use: In order to use Sharepoint, each user requires

  • an active tubIT account
  • a SharePoint Standard CAL 2010 (User CAL resp. Device CAL)
  • a web browser with activated JavaScript
  • recommended: activated Exchange account
  • recommended: MS Windows with Office 2010

Roles

Role Administrators (RollenverwalterInnen) are entitled to apply for SharePoint. After activation the role administrator can distribute SharePoint roles using the Role Administration in TU Portal (Rollenverwaltung).

These roles are available for SharePoint:

  • Reader - rights for reading only; this role is given to all employees of the department
  • Author - has rights for reading and writing
  • Administrator - has rights for reading, writing and administration

Recommendations

You can use SharePoint with any operating system and any browser. We recommend: 

  • MS Windows with MS Office 2010
  • Web browser with activated JavaScript

Addons and complementing services

SAN storage: The storage of a SharePoint Team Site is limited to 5 GB. Departments of TU Berlin are enabled to increase the storage up to 20 GB by buying SAN storage.

AFS service: In order to store large files or large amount of data (e.g. photo archives, video archives, disk images, backups) you can use our AFS service.

Web sites: Contents and data of a SharePoint instance are available to limited a group of persons. You can publish contents by using one of our web services: classical web site or typo3 web site.
